EarlyON Child and Family Centres are a free resource for families with children from birth to age six. At the centres, parents and caregivers can learn and play with their child, while also meeting other families in the area, and getting advice from early childhood professionals.
These centres are for everyone, though families with children with special or unique needs, “might not feel comfortable going to their local EarlyON for various reasons,” said Claire Soden, Developmental Consultant with Lansdowne Children’s Centre.
To help families make those important and helpful connections, a new program will soon be launched that will be specifically built around the needs of families with children with special or unique needs. To make sure the new program offers what is needed, families are being asked to fill out a survey to share feedback.
The survey is available online here:
The new program is intended to launch in early 2025.
Soden said the intention is to help families with children with special and unique needs who are not currently accessing EarlyONs to comfort with coming out to the new program, and when they’re ready, “they can transition to the EarlyONs in their communities, where they can meet other kids and parents in their own communities.”
